got to be LUMPY GILL aswell for me , RSM at 28 AMPH when i got there , hated by the whole regtiment and even his wife . his wife worked in the NAAFI and would open your developed pictures before giving them to you , then she would tell Lumpy Gill if there was anything inappropriate in the photos . He ruled the Regt with an iron fist , i met him in the SGTS mess at chatham about 4 years ago on a 28 reunion .....and took great pleasure in calling the miserable tw@t Lumpy during our brief conversation .

It has to be without a doubt, Lt SPINKS, 50 sqn in the days that Mac Macloughlin was his driver, also his personal slave in the officer's mess in 36 Eng Regt. What a t__t. In fact such a T__t I cannot remember his first name, or perhaps I have T__T. You might have guessed although funny I don't use the word.

Ossie Peters was my section Cpl. in Paderborn. A twat of the lowest order. When he got promoted to Sergeant he was, obviously, Mr Vice at his first formal dinner. He gave the loyal toast and missed his f*****g lips! He was given the job of provo Sgt. We would occasionally phone the guard room and if Ossie answered we would do a 'drum beat' on the table and ask if he got the message.

Its got to be Mungo Melvin when he was CO 28 Hameln, his wife use to demand the guard call here marm, because she use to where his rank, that man was a total TWAT Ha! I went to school with Mungo. Was alright there - never met him in the Corps.... This seems to good a thread to let die off so here's a couple . . starting with Mungo Melvin. . yep, a twat of the highest order . . post Bosnia in 95 he called the whole of 28 Regt up into an open square so he could arrive on a rover sans canopy to address us all . . told us that our 6 months away was being rewarded with a load of exercises so we could get back into it again!! Dick! He then awarded Stu Rankin's Comb Services Running Colours to the wrong man when little fat Spr Rankin from 64 MT was pushed forward!!! The whole Regt pissed itself! He genuinely wrote the Army Leadership manual . . just forgot to read it!! John Batty 28 RSM from hell (old school) in 82 his half decent name being his only redeeming feature! Tony Burnside Oc 522 in Willich . . having 'commanded' gurkhas, (loosest sense of the word) he tried to treat all sappers the same way Just a complete knob . . . god I hope to see him again one day! Gerry Lakey . . . . . little man syndrome . . . and then there was BS! REgards

Lumpy Gill wins it for me, I worked with his wife in the Med Centre at Hamlen, she even hated the bastard.
Another cunt at 3tp 64 aes was a right bullying bastard called Kev Couling, I hope he has died of something real slow and painful.

I think I remember Matten. He was an ugly bastard. Did he go to Kenya with 50 Field cause if he did it was him that must of had that barbed wire compound build with a 160 pound tent in to jail Jimmy Watson after some agro in Nakuro.
Who rembers Staff Davies but the way and the Lake Lomond insident....You must do John
Trout face! Well I would remember it wouldn't I, Bloke was a complete cock. I still chuckle when I picture him out cold on the shore, then he came around ran into Mick Phillips's caravan and tried it on with him. Mistake.

I still say it was at Willich one Major Chris Davies, who then went on the 9 Sqn, where it was alledged a S/Sgt committed suicide because if Davies, then he went onto Ripon........Poor Sods...... God only knows where he is now and to be honest no one should care or give a damn! If he took a dislike to you, he always made it known in front of the whole unit, how to make friends and influence people...NOT Ask Keith D about a Night Navigation exercise we did together at Willich! As I said a real boil on the arse of humanity!

Must admit, I avoided putting any names on here, scared of meeting up with them in the future. But I did notice someone had put Ian McKinnon on here earlier. I never had a problem with him in Cyprus (83-86) but then I was a full screw and he was a Spr/Lance jack. Anyway saw him at the Veterans open day at Kitchener barracks, he's on his second posting there as a Major, although speaking to others who were there as well, don't think he's universally liked, but as I say was still quite pleased to chat with me, must be a rank thing I Thought Ian Mackinnon was ok.Got on well with him when he was a Staffy MPF in 43.He liked a beer up the bar then he wanted to fight and usually did.Saw him at the army/navy a couple of years back he was pissed and denied knowing me when i spoke to him only 30 min later he knew me when he walked passed.I suppose he was out shone by the badge at the time Phillips. There both down the pondarosa now rank's of Major

Looked at this one long and hard.
Staff Sgt Don Ranson
Supt Tp Staffie in 10 Sqn Gütersloh. Late 80s.
Used to grate you for the smallest of misshaps.
Kept the beer in his office then sneaked it back to his pad and shared it with his mate Capt. Mick Lobb.
Mt Sgt who´s name escapes me brocke said office door down to give the lad´s a Friday happy hour.
Bet he dont join this site
Toshi
Mick Lobb was a c**t of the first order. He was a WO1 shiny arse at 35 in the early 80s and he and Roger Sales (the RSM) were the only mates each other had. One of the best things I ever heard of was Mick Lobb being decked at 35's main gate by an ex squaddie with a grudge. He hid his face for a few weeks after that. Pity he didn't drop Roger at the same time. Paul

Lumpy Gill.Never a more humourless or friendless individual have I had the displeasure to meet. His first act as AO/support troop commander at 26 AES was to instigate training regiment style room inspections and get the troop to cam up every vehicle on the main square during lunch hour-he ripped into me because the POD 'stank of fuel'!

Got three from me, as already stated Lumpy Gill and Nelly B. Also the Corps RSM at Chatham 98-99. Little shite from 59.
I could not agree more, He was badge at 20Sqn when I was there. Small man syndrome. One of my muckers who was at 20 and got out in about 98 saw said midget crossing road outside Brompton and gave serious thought to running him over.
Little tw@t didn't like me as I couldn't run like the wind, and couldn't be manipulated into doing what he wanted. Remembered another story about Lumpy Gill. When he was told he was getting the RSM's post at 28, he went down to have a look around, without the encumbant RSMs knowledge. Lumpy started telling people off etc. 28's RSM got to find out quite quickly and had a lot of pleasure telling Lumpy to get off camp.

For me was the SSM 10 Sqn Laarbruch 75/76. The Poisened Dwarf he was called. Ran the Sqn football team. He was well passed his sell by date, but still picked himself to play. He walked into a Guesty where a couple of the boys were having a beer, started drinking with them on the lash all day, all three pissed. One of the boys made a funny remark and he jailed the pair of them.

Mine has got to be Ian Mckinnon, SSM 15 Fd Pk. The final straw for me that made me put pen to paper. Universally hated within the squadron, and a complete oxygen thief in Bosnia. Rumour has it that on our Gibralter tour he was decked in the mess by the SQMS, for being a dick

Brian,
Now you mention it I remember the snowball fight.
I also remember being on main gate guard and Capt Mark Phillips walked in to inspect the guard and both his spurs fell off. This was around the time he was courting Princess Anne and we weren't allowed to go past the house where they used to stay at weekends.

Bob, I also do not recall his name but he was a right nutter, He also made the regt have a snowball fight, he stood in the middle of the area and said to get the aggression out we would have this snowball fight, there was to be none thrown at the RSM or himself, then on his order everyone was to start, youve guessed it, every one threw there snowballls at him. Another of his great ideas was to get the regt to row assault boats down the Rhine and Mainze in the summer in the glorious army issue PT kit which in the day looked bloody awful, Every one got frazzled by the sun down the one side, it was a joke.

The CO (His name escapes me) at 32 Engr Regt Hohne in the early 70s.
He gave himself an extension so he could go to Ireland (because he didn't have any medals!) He got the tailor to make a mess kit for his horse (so he could take it in the Officers mess!) He spent all the PRI money on instruments and uniforms to create a Regt Band. He then rode on his horse, followed by the band, followed by the Regt!!

I must admit I liked DR Matten too....he was QM at 50 when I was there 88-90 and he got me out of the shit a few times! He looked after Dutch Holland too when he rolled his RAF Austin Metro whilst appyting the handbrake and swerving to the left on the gravel path to "avoid a cat??" ........................

Danny, remeber it well, you and me were at the bar in the rugby club, asking everyone that came to the bar "Buy us a drink, it's only 1 mark go on we are visitors" and l don't think we put our hand in our pocket all night. Then all hell let loose, you fuc#ed off and we had to get you back, you running around Willich, l nearly broke my fuc#ing leg chasing you. Then when we did get you in the back of the Landrover we had to sit on you till we got back to Laarbruch, great day's mate

Bush,
When I saw your name on here I was going to ask you if you and Mac were living next door to each other these days. I was a full screw when you got to 65 and the relationship between you and him was, shall we say, clearly strained. Remenber he made you trim your tash? He did a great job of turning the football team into a shambles and reducing 65's morale. Prepared to step on people for his own gain. Fucking bully. Makes you wonder what his attitude would be like now if you met him as a civilian and he had no rank to hide behind.

I liked Dave Matten, I was his Orderly Dog for a life time. He saved me from getting bust in Laarbruch after our awayday to Willich when I ended up scrapping with Jock McKenzie and Bonehead Sanders. Do you remember that one, you were there?!

I was in Waterbeach when Ossie Peters arrived. He drove in through gates, stopped at the guardroom and jailed the guard commander because the guard on the gate wasn't thorough enough in checking his ID.
When he took over his quarters he had his neighbour moved to a different house as he wasn't of sufficient high enough rank to be next door to him.
He was hated from the very top to the very bottom of the regiment.
Rumour has it he was stitched up to make it look like he had been pilfering the Sgt's Mess silver.
He went to the White Horse (a local establishment) one evening for a meal. The cook came out to take his order and Ossie threw a right royal fit at him in front of everyone in the pub, because he thought he was an Army slop jockey moonlighting. He wasn't, and the civvy cook let him know. Cooks clobber is universal in appearance.
